Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament

On 11 February, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, visiting Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the dynamic development in recent years of relations between the Arab Parliament and the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established at the initiative of President of Azerbaijan H.E Mr. Ilham Aliyev. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova recalled her visit to Cairo in February 2023, during which she visited the headquarters of the Arab Parliament, and emphasized the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation signed during that visit. It was also noted that in the same year the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement obtained observer status with the Arab Parliament, creating new opportunities for cooperation.

Stating that relations between our parliaments have entered a new stage, President of the Arab Parliament emphasized that the cooperation and dialogue established by the institution he leads with the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, provide a solid foundation for expanding inter-parliamentary relations. He highly appreciated the role of the Speaker of the Milli Majlis in the effective organization of the work of the Parliamentary Network and noted the importance of this platform, which brings parliaments together, for the discussion of global issues. Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi also invited the Speaker of the Milli Majlis to participate in and address a plenary session of the Arab Parliament.
