Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with the President of the Pan-African Parliament

Ms. Sahiba Gafarova,  Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Mr. Fatih Boutbiq, the President of the Pan-African Parliament as part of her visit to the Republic of South Africa within the participation at the Conference of Speakers of National and Regional Parliaments.

President of the Pan-African Parliament highly praised the speech delivered by Ms. Sahiba Gafarova at the opening ceremony of the Conference of Speakers, stating that the views expressed in the speech on solidarity, friendship and inter-parliamentary cooperation were of great importance. He emphasised the important role played by parliaments in implementing the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

Ms. Sahiba Gafarova emphasised the importance of expanding inter-parliamentary relations, strengthening political dialogue, increasing mutual trust and developing cooperation in new areas.

She noted the importance of continuing joint activities at the regional and international levels. Sahiba Gafarova pointed out that further expanding inter-parliamentary relations would serve mutual interests and that favourable opportunities existed for expanding institutional cooperation with the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova invited the leadership of the Pan-African Parliament to visit Azerbaijan and expressed confidence that the visit would make an important contribution to developing mutual relations and expanding practical cooperation.

The meeting featured an exchange of views on prospects for developing cooperation between the NAM PN and the Pan-African Parliament, interaction within international parliamentary organisations and other matters of common interest.

As part of her visit to the Republic of South Africa, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Ms. Sahiba Gafarova also met with Ms. Safia Elmi Djibril, First Vice-President of the National Assembly of Djibouti and Honorary Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament.

The meeting featured an exchange of views on cooperation within international parliamentary organisations, the expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation and other matters.
