Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network successfully concluded

The Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network dedicated to the topic of "Boosting the role of national parliaments in promoting global peace and sustainable development", which started on June 30, 2022, at the Heydar Aliyev Center, was successfully concluded on July 1.
The H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the conference.
In the continuation of the opening ceremony, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan spoke on behalf of the participants of the event and expressed her gratitude to H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, for his noble initiative on the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network and briefed the participants on the agenda of the Conference.
The meeting continued with the parliamentarians adopting the documents of the Baku Conference, including the “Baku Declaration” and the “Statute on working modalities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network” and approving the logo and the official flag of the Network.
Referring to the adopted Statute on Working Modalities the participants of the Baku Conference elected the Chairperson and Vice-Chairpersons of the Parliamentary Network.
Referring to the adopted Statute on Working Modalities the Baku Conference proceeded to the election of the Chairperson and Vice-Chairpersons of the Parliamentary Network. Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was elected as the Chairperson of the NAM PN. Mr. Ali Ahmed Faysal, Vice-President of the National Council of the State of Palestine (from the Asian group), Mr. Jorge Jesús Rodríguez Gómez, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (from the Latin American group), and Mr. Fawzi Al-Taher Al-Nouiri, the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the State of Libya (from the African group) were elected as Vice-Chairpersons of the NAM PN.
Within the framework of the two-day conference, the leaders of the delegations made speeches and expressed their attitude to the current problems existing in the world and stressed the important role of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network in the joint fight against those challenges.
While talking about the developments taking place in the world, the parliamentarians expressed their hope that the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network would contribute to peace and security worldwide. According to them, the presence of a large number of participants at the Baku Conference of the Parliamentary Network was an expression of the confidence of the member states in the successful and efficient future activities of the Network.
The guests expressed their gratitude to Azerbaijan for the excellent organization of the Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.
The event was attended by representatives of the parliamentary delegations of more than 40 countries and 8 international parliamentary organizations.
At the end of the event, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, delivered a closing speech.
Ms. Sahiba Gafarova pointed out that the concluded Baku Conference was a significant event. She noted that important issues were discussed and decisions were made within the framework of the event.
"We elected the Chairperson and Vice-Chairpersons of the Network for the coming three years, as well as adopted its official logo and flag. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your confidence in electing me as the Chairperson of the NAM Parliamentary Network. I am confident that the valuable ideas voiced in the statements will enrich our work. And of course, a reflection of them in the future activities of the Network will allow our cooperation to rise to a qualitatively new level," said Ms. Sahiba Gafarova.
After the conference, the participants of the event are expected to visit the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, including the city of Shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan. Guests will get acquainted with the restoration and construction works carried out there.
