Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary, Network delivered a speech at the 13th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly

On January 9, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, delivered a speech at the 13th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Antalya within the framework of her visit to the Republic of Türkiye.

 

Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network praised in her speech the past five years of governance of the APA by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye as an unequivocal declaration of this state’s commitment to multilateralism, solidarity and inter-parliamentary cooperation.

 

Ms. Sahiba Gafarova expressed that the world now faces the need to resolve complex challenges. Ms Gafarova said that such problems as poverty, humanitarian crises, inequality and climate change had become yet more apparent at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. She proceeded to comment on the approaches that the global community had taken up to address those problems, saying that such trends as vaccine nationalism and procurement of unfair economic advantage had demonstrated the inefficiency of the unilateral steps taken by certain major states.

 

Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network underscored that the Asian Parliamentary Assembly created a dialogue forum for close cooperation. She highlighted that the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network which was established upon the initiative of H.E. Mr Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, shares the same vision and principles as the APA does, and is prepared to collaborate with the APA.
