Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Mr. Duarte Pacheco, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

On May 16, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Mr. Duarte Pacheco, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, during his visit to Azerbaijan in the framework of the Special Session of the Milli Majlis dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

Ms. Sahiba Gafarova thanked Mr. Duarte Pacheco for his participation at the Special Session of the Milli Majlis and also for his support to the initiative of establishing the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, as well as his active participation in activities of the organization. Chairperson spoke about the recent activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network and took institutional measures for development as an efficient interparliamentary cooperation platform.

Mr. Duarte Pacheco conveyed his gratitude to Ms. Sahiba Gafarova for the invitation to the Special Session of the Milli Majlis and expressed pleasure at his participation in the session.

President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union spoke about the importance of broadening the scope of parliamentary diplomacy in the current times and said that the IPU stands ready to cooperate with the NAM PN.

Various aspects of the NAM PN-IPU interaction were discussed during the meeting.
