On March 9, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Ms. Ms Khuon Sudary, Vice-President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, visiting Azerbaijan.
Ms. Sahiba Gafarova stressed the importance of cooperation among the inter-parliamentary entities and especially highlighted relations between the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network recalled with pleasure her official visit to Cambodia in November last year in the framework of the 43rd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
Ms. Sahiba Gafarova underlined that H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan undertook the initiative, as the Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, to develop the parliamentary dimension of the movement. Chairperson spoke about the Network’s Inaugural Meeting in Madrid, its First Conference in Baku and the Second Conference scheduled in a few days in Manama. Ms. Sahiba Gafarova informed about the work done to ensure the Network’s institutional development and the future activities. Ms. Gafarova expressed that the Parliamentary Network is a serious platform for the discussion of a number of important topics.
Ms. Khuon Sudary, Vice-President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, conveyed her gratitude to Ms Gafarova for the meeting. Ms. Sudary recalled the official visit of Ms. Gafarova to Cambodia held last year. Vice-President of the National Assembly of Cambodia stressed the importance of deepening cooperation between the NAM Parliamentary Network and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
