Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Ms. Fawzia Bint Abdullah Zainal, Speaker of the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain

On September 9, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Ms. Fawzia Bint Abdullah Zainal, Speaker of the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain, within the framework of her participation in the 14th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Ms. Sahiba Gafarova reported on the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, which was established at the initiative of the Azerbaijani side.

Chairperson appreciated the participation of the delegation of the Bahrain Council of Representatives in the first meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network held in November 2021 in Madrid, Spain, as well as in the Baku Conference held on June 30-July 1 of this year.

Ms. Sahiba Gafarova noted that the "Baku Declaration" adopted at the Baku Conference, attended by parliamentary delegations from more than 40 countries and 8 international parliamentary organizations, reflected our general position and views. Also, the adoption of the “Statute on Working Modalities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network” and approval of the official logo and the flag of the organization, as well as the election of the Chairperson and Vice-Chairpersons of the organization were of great importance from the perspective of the institutional development of the Parliamentary Network.

The Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network expressed her belief that the institution she was representing would become a global parliamentary institution and added that they were ready to work together with Bahrain’s Council of Representatives in this direction.

Ms. Fawzia Bint Abdullah Zainal, Speaker of the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain, expressed her gratitude for the sincere words and praised the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.

At the meeting, ideas were exchanged on further expansion of parliamentary diplomacy within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.
