Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Ms. Mabel Chinomona, President of the Senate of the Republic of Zimbabwe

On September 10, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Ms. Mabel Chinomona, President of the Senate of the Republic of Zimbabwe, within the framework of her participation in the 14th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.


Ms. Sahiba Gafarova highlighted that as the Chairing State of the Non-Aligned Movement, Azerbaijan took the initiative to develop its parliamentary dimension. Ms. Sahiba Gafarova highly appreciated the participation of the delegation of the Zimbabwean Parliament in the first meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network held in Madrid last November. Ms. Sahiba Gafarova recalled the Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network held in Azerbaijan on June 30-July 1 of this year. Parliamentary delegations from more than 40 countries and 8 international parliamentary organizations participated in the Baku Conference, and the “Baku Declaration” reflecting our general position and views was adopted.


Ms. Mabel Chinomona, President of the Senate of the Republic of Zimbabwe, said that her country's parliament values the importance of cooperation with the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network. She also noted the significance of relations between legislative bodies and emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy was of great importance in the system of modern international relations.


As the meeting continued, opinions were exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
