Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Ms. Maryam Majid Bin Theneya, Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates

On 14 May, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met in Bukhara with Ms. Maryam Majid Bin Theneya, Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as part of her working visit to Uzbekistan to participate in the Second Asian Women’s Forum.

The meeting featured an exchange of views on cooperation within international organisations. The successfull cooperation within international and regional organisations such as the UN, the OIC and the Non-Aligned Movement was noted. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis expressed satisfaction with the participation of the UAE’s parliamentary representatives in the activities of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established at the initiative of President of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev.

The positive assessment focused in particular on the role of the NAM PN in enhancing multilateral engagement, as well as on its growing institutional capacity and international visibility. The importance of continued interaction within the framework of the NAM PN was underlined as a meaningful contribution to parliamentary diplomacy.
