Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly signed Memorandum of Understanding

On March 12, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met Ms. Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, within the framework of the visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Ms. Sahiba Gafarova expressed that Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network is interested in establishing close ties with inter-parliamentary organizations including the AIPA. Chairperson of the NAM PN highlighted the broad international support for the substantive initiatives established by H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in his capacity as the Chair of the NAM. Ms. Sahiba Gafarova recalled Network’s Inaugural Meeting in Madrid in 2021 and its First Conference in Baku in 2022. Chairperson informed that participation of more than 40 delegations in The Second Conference of the NAM PN is expected which will take place in Manama tomorrow. Ms Sahiba Gafarova underlined that NAM PN’s cooperation with other inter-parliamentary organizations is broadening and mentioned that the Parliamentary Network is already an observer in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States and the Arab Parliament.

Ms. Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman praised the successful Azerbaijani Chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network and underscored the extensive international endorsement of the steps taken to ensure the institutional development of the Network.

The meeting proceeded with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
